The Cipher and the Patent
INT. UNKNOWN ROOM — NIGHT
Holt appears again.
Now in his forties. Gaunt. Pale. Seated before a bare
concrete wall.
HOLT
Hello.
INT. OWEN’S BEDROOM — NIGHT
Three monitors glow in the dark.
Computer parts. Puzzle books. Tangled wires.
OWEN BENNETT, 16, sits in a battered armchair wearing a
virtual-reality headset.
Holt replaces the game inside it.
HOLT
For years, people have asked where
I went.
Owen tries to dismiss the feed. It won’t close.
HOLT (CONT’D)
The better question is why no one
found me.
Owen removes the headset.
Behind Holt, a projector illuminates --
Chess notation. Circuit diagrams. Constellations. Symbols.
HOLT (CONT’D)
I built my life solving impossible

A faint smile.
HOLT (CONT’D)
Energy. Transportation. Loneliness.
Holt places a GOLD BAR on the table.

A message from SIENNA:
SIENNA:

Owen types:
Nah.
He stares at it.

Another message appears:
SIENNA:

Owen turns the phone facedown.
He returns to the puzzle.
Across the room, a yellowing PATENT DRAWING hangs beneath an

JAX

SIENNA PARK, 16, composed and observant, raises her hand.
SIENNA

MS. STAFFORD
Quite true, Ms. Park. It was said
the Rocky Mountain Arsenal had
enough sarin stored up to kill
every man, woman, and child on
Earth.
DARREN
What did they keep at Seven Pines?
Ms. Stafford ignores the question at first -- turns back to

LUCAS BRADEN, 17, athletic, looks over.
His younger sister MADDIE, 15, sketches beside him.
LUCAS
Seven Pines was just military

DARREN
That’s the version your sheriff

MS. STAFFORD
Seven Pines closed in 1989 after
structural damage. Most things that
went on there are still considered
highly classified.
DARREN
There were reports of animals born
wrong for years afterward.
MS. STAFFORD
There’s absolutely no evidence to

The spillway THUNDERS beyond the sealed door.
Six flashlights snap on.
Their beams reveal wet concrete, rusted pipes -- and claw
marks gouged into the wall. Three inches deep.
Lucas tries the brass key in the door behind them.
It won’t turn.
He shoulders the door. Nothing.
LUCAS
Owen.
OWEN
The water pressure must’ve engaged
the lock.
LUCAS
You said we could wait inside.
OWEN
I didn’t design the door.
Lucas steps toward him.
SIENNA
Argue after we’re not drowning.
Water seeps beneath the steel door.
Then pours.
Maddie’s flashlight catches faded lettering farther down the
tunnel --
EMERGENCY EGRESS -- 400 FT
MADDIE
That way.
The water rises over their shoes.
They move.

The Breather's Betrayal
INT. INTAKE TUNNEL — MOMENTS LATER
The kids hurry through the dripping tunnel.
Flashlights skim faded military stencils.
PROJECT GEMINI.
AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
Maddie stops.
Something catches her eye.
Hundreds of tiny SCRATCHES cover one concrete pillar.
Lucas grabs her arm.
LUCAS
Mads --
She doesn't move.
The scratches aren't random.
They've been carved with a knife.
Three.
Pause.
Two.
Pause.
Three.
Repeated over and over.
Owen freezes.
He opens his grandfather's compass.
The lid.
Three dots. Two dots. Three dots.
Exactly the same.
Lucas studies the tunnel ahead.
Three corridors.
The left passage is marked SURFACE ACCESS.
The center descends toward CONTAINMENT.
The right disappears into darkness.
Owen compares the compass to the scratches.
The needle isn't pointing toward any corridor.
It's pointing... at the wall.
He knocks.
Solid. Again. A different spot. Hollow.
Everyone looks.
Maddie traces another nearly invisible carving --
A chess king with an arrow. Pointing toward the hollow
section.
Lucas stares at Owen.
LUCAS (CONT’D)
He expected someone to make it this
far.
Owen nods. Uneasy.
OWEN
No.
(beat)
He expected someone to keep asking
questions.
A metallic SHRIEK tears across the ceiling as tremendous
weight drags over the steel panels.
Dust rains down.
The kids stare upward.
The dragging stops directly above Lucas.
A dent slowly presses into the ceiling.
Lucas backs away.
From the containment passage --
A low GROWL.
Then a second GROWL answers from somewhere deeper inside.
The ceiling dent releases.
Something moves toward the containment corridor. Fast.
The lights inside it begin going out.
One after another.
Coming toward them.
Lucas turns to the flooded passage.
Owen strikes the wall. Hollow.
Maddie finds the king-shaped latch.
The panel opens -- revealing an emergency transit breather.
Inside, a thick air hose coils around a pressure cylinder.
Six short breathing lines branch from it, each ending in a
rubber mouthpiece.
A gauge trembles just above EMPTY.
LUCAS
How far?
Owen traces the damaged map.
OWEN
Forty yards. Maybe fifty.
JAX
“Maybe” is becoming a problem.
Behind them, another light dies.
Sienna lifts the main valve.
SIENNA
This was built for six people.
Darren counts. Six teenagers.
The final light in the containment corridor flickers.
A SHADOW crosses it.
Lucas grabs a mouthpiece.
LUCAS
Nobody lets go of the hose.
They each take one.
Owen opens the valve.
Air HISSES through the line.
The pressure needle drops immediately.
Jax takes a mouthpiece — but doesn’t put it in.
JAX
I should mention I’m not a strong
swimmer.
Everyone looks at him.
JAX (CONT’D)
By “not strong,” I mean my mother
paid for three summers of lessons
and I faked an ear infection
through all of them.
No one laughs.
Jax looks into the black water.
JAX (CONT’D)
I joke when I want people to think
I’m less scared than I am.
Lucas secures Jax’s mouthpiece to the hose.
LUCAS
Is it working?
JAX
Not remotely.
Lucas holds his gaze.
LUCAS
Stay behind Sienna. Don’t stop
moving.
Jax nods. He puts the mouthpiece in.
They enter the water.
UNDERWATER
Blackness swallows them.
Six flashlight beams cut narrow tunnels through suspended
rust and silt.
The breathing hose unspools behind them, their only path
back.
They move single file.
Lucas first. Maddie behind him. Sienna. Jax. Darren.
Owen last, feeding out the hose.
Each breath is enormous inside their heads.
INHALE. BUBBLES. EXHALE.
The emergency cylinder scrapes along the flooded floor behind
Owen.
They pass an observation window.
The glass is opaque with mineral growth.
Something on the other side taps it. Once.
Owen’s light swings back --
Nothing.
He keeps moving.
Ahead, Lucas reaches a collapsed section of ceiling. Rebar
forms a narrow cage.
He squeezes through.
The others follow.
Darren’s backpack catches.
He yanks.
Silt erupts around him.
Visibility vanishes.
Six lights become vague halos in brown-black water.
Darren thrashes.
His mouthpiece slips.
Sienna grabs him, forces it back between his teeth.
The hose jerks tight.
Everyone stops.
Something has caught it behind Owen.
He turns.
The line disappears into the darkness.
He pulls. It does not move.
The pressure gauge on the cylinder drops lower.
Owen swims back along the hose.
His light finds it wrapped around a bent railing.
He frees one loop. The hose moves. Then pulls itself tight
again. Held.
Owen freezes.
Beyond the reach of his flashlight --
A massive pale shape moves.
The hose snaps sideways.
Owen slams against the wall.
His mouthpiece tears free.
Air bubbles explode from his lips.
He reaches for it --
A shape rushes past.
Not enough to see. Only the suggestion of a long body and
jointed limbs folding against the tunnel wall.
Owen grabs the spare mouthpiece clipped to the hose.
Before he can insert it --
TEETH clamp around the rubber.
The creature hangs there in the dark, attached to the hose by
its jaws.
Owen’s flashlight catches one detail --
A milky human eye embedded above the teeth.
It looks directly at him.
Owen releases the mouthpiece.
The creature pulls it into the darkness.
The hose whips violently.
Air fountains from the severed line.
The pressure needle PLUNGES.
Ahead, five flashlight beams turn toward Owen.
Lucas reaches back.
Owen kicks toward him, holding his breath.
The water below Owen ripples.
A dark shape matches him from beneath.
Every kick he makes -- it makes.
Lucas stretches farther.
Owen reaches --
Something brushes the sole of his shoe.
He jerks his leg up.
Lucas grabs Owen’s wrist.
The others pull.
They drag Owen through the rebar cage as something SLAMS into
it behind him.
The entire structure buckles.
The emergency light glows ahead through a final submerged
doorway.
The group kicks toward it. The hose pulses between them.
One mouthpiece stops delivering air.
Jax sucks hard. Nothing.
He looks at the others, panicked.
Another mouthpiece dies.
Then another.
The cylinder is empty.
They abandon the hose and swim.
Maddie falls behind.
Lucas turns --
Her jacket is caught on a jagged pipe.
He swims back, tears it free.
Behind Maddie, two sets of YELLOW EYES open in the dark.
Lucas sees them.
He shoves Maddie toward the light.
The creature surges.

The Flood Gate
INT. ACCESS ROOM — CONTINUOUS
Lucas and Maddie break the surface first.
Sienna. Jax. Darren.
They scramble onto a narrow platform.
Owen bursts up last, gasping.
He claws onto the concrete.
The water behind him remains perfectly still.
For one breath. Two.
The severed breathing hose floats into the emergency light.
Its spare mouthpiece drifts past.
Crushed flat. Deep tooth marks puncture the rubber.
Jax backs away from the edge.
JAX
Tell me that happened on a pipe.
A ripple moves beneath the platform.
Owen sees a MANUAL FLOOD DOOR RELEASE mounted on the wall.
He lunges for it. Slams the release.
A steel gate drops between the platform and the flooded
tunnel.
Something hits the other side with enough force to bow the
metal inward.
Then a second impact lands beside it.
Water drips from the ceiling.
The lights CUT OUT. Darkness.
Six ragged breaths.
Sienna’s flashlight clicks on.
The beam finds a narrow corridor leading away from the water.
At the far end stands a heavy steel door.
Faded lettering stretches across it:
ADVANCED PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT
Below that, stenciled more recently:
INVENTION WORKSHOP
Owen stares at the words.
Then at his father’s patent, soaked against his chest.
Behind them --
The gate GROANS inward.
LUCAS
Move.
They hurry down the corridor toward the workshop door.
As Owen reaches it, something SLAMS into the flood gate
again.
Owen grabs the workshop handle. Locked.
Beside it, a brass plate bears Holt’s twin emblem.
And a keyhole.
Owen looks at the key still clenched in his hand.
He inserts it. Turns.
A deep mechanism unlocks inside the door.
The group pushes through.
The workshop beyond remains dark.
Behind them, metal TEARS.
Owen pulls the door shut.

INT. INVENTION WORKSHOP — CONTINUOUS
The doors SEAL behind them.
Hundreds of failed HOLT INVENTIONS crowd the darkness.
Mechanical arms. Driverless carts. A robotic hand holding a

An APPLAUSE MACHINE faces an empty stage.
At the far end:
VAULT ACCESS. No handle.
Above it, a message flickers alive:
HOW DO YOU LIVE WITHOUT NEEDING ANYONE?
Owen scans the room.
OWEN
They’re not separate inventions.
A low GROWL rolls through the corridor behind them.
Lucas watches the sealed doors.
LUCAS
Make the insight faster.
Jax’s light catches an open SAFE beneath a workbench. Its
lock has been smashed.
Inside -- empty shelves and a dust-covered CASSETTE RECORDER.
JAX
Someone beat us to the treasure.
Sienna studies the floor.
Crowbar gouges lead from the safe to several cabinets — all
forced open. All empty.
Darren lifts the recorder.
DARREN
Or thought they did.
He presses PLAY.
Static.
Then HOLT’S VOICE. Younger. Clearer.
HOLT (RECORDING)
If you’re listening, you arrived
exactly as I thought.
The group goes still.
HOLT (RECORDING) (CONT’D)
Looking for something worth
stealing.
Maddie watches a shadow move beneath the door.
The tape CLICKS off.
On the back of the recorder, scratched by hand:
TREASURE HUNTERS OPEN THE SAFE.
Owen turns it over.
PUZZLE SOLVERS ASK WHY I BUILT THE ROOM.
LUCAS
Why did he build the room?
Owen looks across the inventions.
A mechanical arm reaches toward a driverless cart --
Stops six inches short.
OWEN
Because none of them work alone.
Sienna understands.
SIENNA
They were built to replace people.
Darren drags two cables together.
DARREN
Then make them replace each other.
He connects them.
The APPLAUSE MACHINE suddenly CLAPS.
A transport cart wakes. Jax climbs aboard.
JAX
I volunteer as the human component.
Owen connects the mechanical arm to the cart.
The arm extends, pulls a switch. Nothing.
OWEN
Wrong order.
He tears the cable free.
Sienna spots James’s compass in his hand.
Three marks. Two. Three.
SIENNA
Owen. The sequence.
He looks around.
Three machines along the left wall.
Two suspended overhead.
Three clustered near the doors.
Owen points.
OWEN
Lucas, left side. Darren, overhead.
(to Sienna)
Call the alignment.
Everyone moves.
Lucas activates the first three machines.
Darren climbs onto the cart beside Jax.
JAX
This is the worst amusement park.
They race beneath the overhead switches.
Mechanical arms unfold across the room, each stopping just
short of the next.
Sienna watches their positions.
SIENNA
Left side ready.
DARREN
Overhead ready.
Near the doors, Maddie stands beside the final three
switches.
MADDIE
Now.
OWEN
Now!
They hit the controls.
Three. Two. Three.
Every machine activates.
Mechanical arms link across the workshop.
The driverless cart pulls a lever.
The robotic hand presses a button.
The applause machine completes the final circuit.
For one perfect second, every failed invention completes
another.
The VAULT DOOR unlocks.
A timer ignites above it:
01:47
The group runs through.
Behind them, the workshop doors RIP OPEN.
GEMINI enters.
Two mountain-lion heads sharing one starved, mutilated body.
One scarred and hairless, its milky eye fixed on Owen.
The other snarling, wild-eyed.
They breathe at different rhythms.
One inhales. The other growls.
The heads turn toward each other.
Then, together, toward the kids.
Gemini ROARS.
Lucas pulls Maddie through the vault door.
The others race after them.
Owen dives through last.
The door SLAMS shut as Gemini charges.
The creature hits the opposite side. The steel buckles.
They run deeper into the mountain.

Owen presses the call button. Nothing.
Then -- a soft electronic CHIME.
The button illuminates beneath his finger.
Somewhere deep inside the mountain, machinery wakes.
Cables strain.
A distant elevator begins to rise.
JAX
How far down was it?
The floor indicator flickers:
G-9.
G-8.
G-7.
The numbers climb.
Darren watches the sealed doors.
DARREN
It knew we were coming.
LUCAS
It’s an elevator.
The indicator reaches:

The doors slide open --
The elevator is empty. Clean. Untouched by the decay around

Warm golden light spills across the tunnel floor.
Maddie peers inside.

DARREN

Lucas never lowers his flashlight.
LUCAS
Pictures. One bar.
Then we leave.
Owen barely hears him. He smiles.
A SOFT CHESS CLOCK begins ticking.
Everyone turns.
A monitor descends from the ceiling.
Tyler Holt appears. Older. Frailer. Watching them almost

You don’t have to go where he goes.
Castor LUNGES. Pollux twists their body.
The jaws miss Maddie by inches.
Vale increases the frequency.
Gemini SCREAMS.
MADDIE (CONT’D)
The sound controls Castor.
Owen watches the core’s light crawl beneath Pollux’s skin.
OWEN
The core pulls Pollux.
VALE
There is no Pollux.
MADDIE
Yes, there is.
Vale points the transmitter.
VALE
Retrieve.
Castor rises toward Owen.
Pollux strains toward Maddie.
Maddie looks from Owen to the core.
MADDIE
Make them choose.
Owen circles toward the core.
Castor follows.
Maddie moves the opposite direction.
Pollux follows her.
Their shared body locks between them.
Muscles tearing against themselves.
The transmitter SPARKS.
Gemini wrenches sideways --
SLAMS into Keller.
The core spins free.
Sienna catches it.
Vale lunges.
Sienna throws to Darren.
Darren to Jax.
Jax to Lucas.
Lucas catches it and runs for the blue corridor.
Keller rises from the wreckage.
FIRES.
The round strikes beside Lucas.
Keller tackles him.
The core skids across the floor.
Vale snatches it.
VALE
Reactor.
She and Keller disappear through a second doorway.
The kids flee toward the blue corridor.
Owen hesitates.
Across the broken glass:
JAMES BENNETT FOUNDING INVENTOR
VALE (O.S.) (CONT’D)
Leave and he disappears again.
Owen looks at his father’s name.
Then at his friends waiting for him.
OWEN
Then we tell the story ourselves.
He runs.

WATERSHED DISCHARGE — 10:51
Darren studies the coolant diagram.
Red fluid moves through pipes toward the reservoir.
DARREN
Vale’s putting the core into the

SIENNA
What happens when it connects?
DARREN
The reactor finishes the purge.
JAX
Define “finishes.”
DARREN
Everything in the red pipes goes
into the reservoir.
The restraint WHINE stops.
Then -- two pairs of YELLOW EYES appear beyond the red
emergency lights.
GEMINI steps into the junction.
Without the signal, the creature moves differently. Steadier.
Castor bares its teeth. Pollux looks at Maddie.
Owen raises his empty hands.
OWEN
Don’t run.
LUCAS
That has historically gone badly.
A golden PULSE travels through the walls.
Gemini reacts. Both heads turn toward the reactor.
Castor pulls forward. Pollux resists.
Maddie steps closer.

At the final junction, the path divides.
One passage climbs toward SURFACE CONTROL.
The other descends toward CENTRAL REACTOR.
Contaminated water floods beneath both doors.
Darren checks the countdown.

DARREN
Surface control can divert the
water.
SIENNA
And the core?
DARREN
Has to come out of the reactor.
Lucas looks at Owen.
LUCAS
We split up.
OWEN
Lucas --
LUCAS
You, Sienna and Darren know the

He points to Maddie and Jax.
LUCAS (CONT’D)
We know the hydraulic system.
A heavy IMPACT echoes beyond the reactor door.
Gemini snarls at the core’s pulse.
Lucas grips Owen’s shoulder.
LUCAS (CONT’D)
Listen to me.
Owen does.
LUCAS (CONT’D)
Don’t solve it. Don’t win.
Just get everyone back.
Owen nods.
Lucas, Maddie and Jax race toward surface control.
Owen, Sienna and Darren descend toward the reactor.
Gemini remains between both paths.

The Coolant Conundrum
INT. SURFACE CONTROL CORRIDOR — CONTINUOUS
Lucas, Maddie and Jax fight uphill against rushing water.
They reach a hydraulic door. No power.
A manual wheel sits above it, beyond reach.
Lucas jumps. Misses.
Jax locks his hands together.
JAX
Step.
Lucas steps into them. Still too low.
Maddie crouches beside Jax.
MADDIE
Both of us.
Lucas steps onto their linked hands.
They lift.
He catches the wheel.
Water rises around Maddie’s knees. Then her waist.
Lucas hangs from the wheel, wrenching it around one notch at
a time.
The door opens three inches.
Water BLASTS through.
Jax loses his footing.
Maddie catches his jacket.
Lucas forces the wheel farther.
The door gives --
A wall of water sweeps them inside.
They tumble across the floor.
Lucas slams the door shut behind them.
Through reinforced windows, the reservoir churns beneath the
storm.
Three physical pipe systems run through the room:
INTAKE.
COOLANT.
EMERGENCY DIVERSION.
A glass section of coolant pipe glows a sick chemical RED.
It moves steadily toward the reservoir.
Countdown:
07:56.
Jax reaches the central console.
A schematic displays two possible routes:
RESERVOIR
TURBINE
The TURBINE route is dark.
JAX
We can send it somewhere else.
LUCAS
Where?
Jax points.
JAX
Back through the reactor turbine.
MADDIE
Can it hold that much?
JAX
No idea.
Three manual controls stand across the room.
Too far apart for one person.
Maddie takes INTAKE.
Jax takes COOLANT.
Lucas takes DIVERSION.
Each requires a lever to be held down.
LUCAS
On three.
MADDIE
Wait.
She studies the digital display.
Then the actual pipes.
The screen shows the intake closed.
Behind the glass, water already pounds through it.
MADDIE (CONT’D)
The display’s lying.
She points to the physical valves.
MADDIE (CONT’D)
Watch the pipes. Not the screens.
Lucas looks through the glass network.
Three pressure waves move toward their stations.
LUCAS
Call it when yours hits.
They grip the levers. A wave reaches Lucas.
LUCAS (CONT’D)

He pulls.
Another wave reaches Jax.
JAX
Now.
He pulls.
Maddie waits.
Her display flashes green. But the physical pipe remains
still.
LUCAS
Maddie --
MADDIE
Not yet.
A pressure tremor finally reaches her valve.
MADDIE (CONT’D)
Now.
She pulls.
The room SHAKES.
The red coolant stops inches from the reservoir manifold.
Then slowly reverses.
TURBINE DIVERSION OPEN.
JAX
It worked.
The pressure climbs.
A warning appears:
ALL THREE CONTROLS MUST REMAIN ENGAGED.
Lucas looks at the countdown.

The Core's Sacrifice
INT. CENTRAL REACTOR — SAME
A cathedral of steel built around a vertical turbine shaft.
The GEMINI CORE burns inside a suspended cradle.
Gold energy pours through the chamber.
Below it, red coolant begins reversing toward the turbine.
Vale works at the control dais.
Keller stands beside her, injured but armed.
The display reads:
CORE SYNCHRONIZATION — 83%
Gemini crashes through an upper security gate.
Castor ROARS.
Vale raises the restraint transmitter.
Presses it. Nothing.
Again. Dead.
VALE
Keller.
Keller fires.
Gemini leaps from the gantry.
The bullet grazes Castor. Pollux jerks the shared body
sideways.
Gemini crashes through a railing and drops onto the lower
platform.
Owen, Sienna and Darren slip through a maintenance entrance.
Vale sees them.
VALE (CONT’D)

Vale activates a control.
Steel bars crash down between the kids and the core.
VALE

OWEN
Someone who can still look at me.
Gemini strikes the security gate.
Vale flinches.
OWEN (CONT’D)
And Keller? What does he become?
Keller’s rifle lowers half an inch.
VALE
Do not confuse guilt with morality.
KELLER
You promised my daughter treatment.
Vale keeps her eyes on the core.
VALE
I promised you would cooperate.
Keller goes still.
KELLER
She was never in the program.
Vale finally looks at him.
VALE
She was never the program.
(beat)
You were.
Keller looks at his rifle.
Then at the emergency release beside Vale.
He FIRES ---
At the core restraint.
The mechanism EXPLODES.
Vale draws and SHOOTS Keller through the thigh.
He drops -- but keeps firing into the restraint.
KELLER
Now I know the difference.
Darren reaches a terminal beside the bars.
SYNCHRONIZATION — 87%
DARREN
At one hundred, the core becomes
part of the reactor.
Sienna studies the chamber.
Three coolant lines feed the cradle. A fourth descends into
the turbine shaft.
SIENNA
Can we shut it down?
Darren checks the schematics.
DARREN
The core powers itself.
Owen sees his father’s regenerative loop rotating across the
monitor.
Energy feeds outward. Then returns. Again. Again.
OWEN
It isn’t making energy.
SIENNA
Then what is it doing?
OWEN
Catching what spills.
He sees his father tracing the loop in the garage.
JAMES (V.O.)
Nothing gets to run forever.
Owen looks into the turbine shaft.
OWEN
We make it spend everything before
it can take anything back.
The synchronization climbs.
Sparks shower Darren’s terminal.
Gemini launches onto the platform between Keller and Vale.
Castor attacks.
Pollux twists the body away at the last second.
Keller empties the rifle.
A bullet shatters the restraint transmitter in Vale’s hand.
Gemini swipes Keller across the platform.
His rifle disappears into the turbine shaft.
Vale runs toward the core.
Sienna sees an emergency ladder beneath the cradle.

She begins climbing toward a manual cradle release.
Darren takes the control dials.
Owen squeezes into the service channel beneath the core.
Vale sees him.
VALE
You destroy that, you destroy the
only proof your father ever
mattered.
Owen looks up through the glowing machinery.
The turbine begins to turn. Slowly.
The reversed coolant strikes its lower blades.
DARREN
Lucas found the diversion.
The turbine turns faster.
The core dims --
Then instantly brightens again.
DARREN (CONT’D)
It’s recovering faster than the
turbine can use it.
Owen finds the regenerative coupling.
A hidden DISCHARGE BYPASS sits open beside the regenerative
loop.
Owen pulls out the brass compass. Tries to fit it into the
gap. Too large.
Sienna hangs from the ladder above him.
She sees the schematic.
SIENNA
The missing line.
Owen looks at her.
SIENNA (CONT’D)
Everyone thought your father didn’t

Darren sees it too.
DARREN
He did.
The core surges.
SYNCHRONIZATION — 94%

J.B.
Three marks. Two. Three.
He snaps the lid from its hinge.
The narrow brass edge matches the missing connection.
OWEN
It wasn’t unfinished.
He inserts the brass.
The bypass closes.
A sharp electrical POP.
REGENERATIVE LOOP BYPASSED.
The core’s endless loop stops. Its light begins to fade.
Every monitor fills with Holt’s archive.

His father’s name fills the reactor.
DARREN

Owen looks at the reservoir schematic.
Contaminated coolant strains against the diversion.
COUNTDOWN: 04:11.
Vale steps toward him.
VALE
Stop the turbine and the archive
survives.
SIENNA
And the reservoir dies.
VALE
Your father has spent his life
being forgotten.
The terminal offers only two commands:
STABILIZE CORE
DISCHARGE THROUGH TURBINE
VALE (CONT’D)
Save the archive.
Owen looks at James’s name.
FLASHES --
-- James in the garage.
-- The collapsed cooler.
-- The mechanical hand waiting for a high five.
-- James closing Owen’s fingers around the compass.
JAMES (V.O.)
Bring it back.
Owen looks at the broken compass in the coupling.
OWEN
He doesn’t need this back.
He presses:
DISCHARGE THROUGH TURBINE.
The archive dissolves into gold static.
Vale’s face breaks.
VALE
No.
