The Opposition Rewrite: Every week, take one scene that feels too calm or one-sided and rewrite it with a concrete opposing want. If Raiden is repairing a ventilator, make the ventilator fail twice and add a nurse who argues with his method; if Grace is accepting payment terms, make her challenge the terms and propose a different deal. Keep the same tone and length.
The Hidden Agenda Page: Write a one-page scene in which two characters are negotiating, but each has a secret practical need they cannot state out loud. Give each character a physical tell, such as Raiden glancing at the ventilator timer or Grace clutching her envelope. End with a single line or gesture that changes the power balance between them.
The Scene Value-Shift Test: After drafting any scene, write one sentence identifying the value that changes in it, such as safety to risk, trust to suspicion, or control to uncertainty. If the value is the same at the end as it was at the beginning, rewrite the scene until a decision or discovery forces a visible shift. Practice this at least once per writing session.
